✦ A GUIDED GRATITUDE PRAYER

Write Your Own Personal Dayenu

A guided gratitude prayer for being and having enough.

By James Alvino, PhD

✦ A GUIDED GRATITUDE PRAYER

A Personal Gratitude Prayer for

Being and Having Enough

Inspired by the traditional 15-stanza Dayenu prayer of gratitude, this is my personal reflection on being and having enough.

Dedicated to my mother, Esther G., named after Queen Esther, whose courage, wisdom, and divine timing helped save her people. Like her namesake, my mother’s love, strength, and spirit remain among the great blessings of my life.

✦ A Note on Queen Esther

Courage, wisdom, and divine timing.

Queen Esther is remembered as one of the great women of Jewish sacred history. Born Hadassah, she became queen of Persia and, through courage, wisdom, and divine timing, helped save her people from destruction. Her story is one of hidden strength, sacred responsibility, and being placed in the right moment for a purpose greater than she could fully see.

For me, the name Esther carries legacy, courage, protection, and love. Dedicating this Personal Dayenu to my mother, Esther G., honors not only her name, but the strength and blessing she had been in my life and remains so today.

✦ Sacred Language Note

Choose the sacred language that feels most aligned for you.

This personal version uses He/His in the traditional devotional style.

In writing your own Personal Dayenu, you may choose the sacred language that feels most aligned for you, such as:

God / The Creator / Supreme Being / Higher Intelligence / Transcendental Self / Quantum Field / The Divine / Source / Spirit / Life

1

If He — [God / Transcendental Self / Higher Intelligence / Quantum Field / Supreme Being / The Creator] — had created the entire universe, including me, and had not created me in His image, it would have been enough.

2

If He had created me in His image, and had not given me the gift of free will, it would have been enough.

3

If He had given me free will, and had not given me discernment between good and evil, it would have been enough.

LATER IN THE PRAYER

7

If He had given me the opportunity for growth and transformation, and had not opened the way to self-enlightenment, it would have been enough.

8

If He had opened the way to self-enlightenment, and only within the limits of my current persona, it would have been enough.

✦ CLOSING REFLECTION

For this, I receive.

For this, I trust.

For this, I create.

For this, I give supreme thanks.

✦ THE GUIDED WORKBOOK

A Guided Gratitude Prayer Workbook for Being and Having Enough

After writing my own Personal Dayenu, I realized this practice should not be mine alone.

Many people carry stories of blessing, growth, survival, choice, transformation, and trust — but they have never been guided to put those gifts into a personal prayer.

That is why I created this guided workbook.

This workbook helps you create your own Personal Dayenu using a step-by-step reflection process, sacred language options, guided prompts, writing space, and a final prayer format.

It is for anyone who wants to recognize what has already been given, what is still unfolding, and what it means to be and have enough.
